Responsibilities of Referee-in-Chief

  • Supervise all referees employed in the care of OWBHL
  • Develop criteria for evaluation of referees and provide visual and/or written evaluation of referees or have a delegate evaluate performances
  • Provide feedback to referees, ensure quality control, educate and mentor referees
  • Schedule referees
  • Advise the Executive’s grievance committee & attend meetings as needed
  • Assist Board in developing policy and procedure when expertise is required
  • Ensure all referees are up to date and understand requirements in accordance to the Ontario Ball Hockey Association standards and within the framework of the OWBHL
  • Referee games in the teaching capacity
  • Provide additional training to referees such as report writing
  • Report to President(s), consult with the Executive, coaches, conveners and other sanctioning bodies such as the OBHA

  • Good inter-personal skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Supervisory experience beneficial

Rules & Regulations

  • All referees must arrive at arena 15 minutes prior to each game
  • All referees must sign game sheets at the conclusion of each match
  • All referees must submit proper paperwork and reports to the league in the event of a situation such as a coach ejection / player ejection
  • All referees must wear proper attire. This includes striped shirt, black shorts – length knee high, wear a helmet (if under the age of 16)

The OWBHL referees are sanctioned by the Ontario Ball Hockey Association.
